Puppy vs. Kitty The Standoff

There are so many great pictures of puppy vs. kitty and for some reason I always feel like I have to share them with my readers.  Here’s you’re daily dose of cute puppy vs. kitty pictures.

Puppy Vs. Kitty The Standoff

Kitty vs. Puppy

Kitten vs Puppy Standoff, originally uploaded by DoYouMindTheGap.

So, lets break down the image.  Kitty looks curious, but not thrilled.  You can tell by the fluffed out tail and it looks like the fur along her spine is starting to stand up.  Puppy (looks like a little chocolate lab) is crouched and ready to play.  I think he’s going to spring up at any moment to attack (playfully) poor little kitty.

Are You Interested In A Pet Portrait?

I love my dogs as I’m sure many of you do to. I probably have thousands of photos of them sitting on my digital camera, on my computer, on an external hard drive, and probably a handful on print. It’s sad that I don’t have too many printed images of my dogs.

Sandy Taylor “Colorful Impressionist”

I recently received an email from a Sandy Taylor a Sawdust Festival Fine Art Festival Artist. She told me about her love for painting and pets and her intereste in fulfilling both those passions by painting pet portraits. Immediately, I thought of my readers and how they might enjoy a wonderful portrait of their loving pet(s). Here’s a short blurb about Sandy’s painting straight from her website:

Many of her pieces are painted plein air in Laguna Beach & nearby Newport Beach, as well as throughout the states and abroad, primarily France & England. She is known as a “colorful impressionist” by both critics & clients, who describe her work as happy, fresh, mystical & magical with a childlike vulnerability.

Here are samples of her work:

Puppy In Training Blog Carnival #5

Welcome back to another episode of the Puppy In Training Blog Carnival.  We made a few changes this week in hopes of creating more interaction and community in this edition of the blog carnival.

Two out of our four articles cover dog costs and how to save money when owning a dog.  I must say this definitely reflects the current economy and how each and everyone of us is looking for different ways to save money.

Puppy In Training Blog Carnival #5

Our first article tackles the problem of how to handle problems when a dog co-exists with a child.  The Baby-Log.com blog covers some important points in the article Kids and pets need to learn mutual respect.  The first rule mentioned in the article is probably one of the most important:  Play under supervision only. – If I can’t watch the kid and the dog every single second, they are not allowed to play.  Although I don’t have children my guide dog puppy has the same rule.  He’s only allowed to play with my other two dogs under supervision only.  Derby my guide dog puppy can often times get out of control and he must learn appropriate play with other dogs.

All of us here at Puppy In Training do our best to try and help out with dog adoptions and fostering.  Our second article from the Money Theory blog goes over the story of adopting two wonderful dogs.  If you’re interested in adopting a dog and would like to save a little money then check out our second article: Adopt a pet from your local shelter, and save money! We took that route and adopted Linus our Australian Shepherd mix from the shelter and we haven’t regretted that decision one bit!

Our third article from the Condo Blues blog tackles an issue I haven’t encountered just yet and that is trying to answer the question: Have You Ever Put An Active Dog On Complete Bed Rest? It’s Not Easy… I’ve always wondered how to put dogs on bed rest.  My friends American Staffordshire Terrier had two knee operations and had to be on bed rest.  I had another friend who’s Yellow Labrador Retriever was on bed rest for elbow dysplasia.  The list goes on and on and I’m pretty certain that my turn will come too.  This article tells you about Blitzkrieg the little Pekingese and how he was put on bed rest.

Our final article from the Lazy Man and Money covers a very important question with our current economy: How Much Does A Dog Cost? If you’re looking to get a dog this is a very important question to ask yourself because one of the top ten reasons dogs end up in shelters is that the cost of keeping the dog is two high for the owner.  This is a great article as the “Lazy Man” breaks down the initial expenses and recurring expenses a person will have when that person becomes a dog owner.  A quick not on this article: there are a ton of great comments after the article that raise some great points and offer additional information on how much a dog costs.

Thanks everyone for your submissions to the Puppy In Training Blog Carnival.  If you’re interested in submitting an article to our next blog carnival then please leave me a comment or send me a message through our contact form.

The Winner of The Cesar Millan Mastering Leadership DVD Series

And the winner of the Cesar Millan Mastering Leadership DVD Series is….

Sorry all, I was supposed to have this done early in the month, but unfortunately the new year has been keeping me busy.  The contest ran during the month of December and all you had to do was add a meaningful comment on the website.  I removed some commentors from the competition because I didn’t consider they’re comments meaningful (as  mentioned “Nice Post” just doesn’t cut it).

We had a relatively small list of contestants (18 total).  I used Random.org to randomize everyone’s name and the person in the number 1 position is the winner.  Here’s a screen shot of the results:

Random List

Congratulations to Colleen the winner of the Cesar Millan Mastering Leadership DVD.  Colleen has her own blog and you can check out her adventures and excitement with her dog Luna at http://www.colleenkatana.com.

If you didn’t win the DVD set you can purchase it through amazon.com at the following link: Cesar Millan’s Mastering Leadership DVD Set

Thanks everyone for entering the contest and stay tuned for more Puppy In Training contests in the coming months.

Are You A Puppy Nerd?

I know there has to be other puppy nerds out there. I hesitated showing this picture because it truly shows that I am a puppy nerd. If you enjoy this picture as much as I do then you may be a puppy nerd too. It’s not just the image, but the headline that went with it. So, lets see if you like me are a puppy nerd.

I found this one amongst the many images at Puppy Parade.

Where Dat Puppeh ATAT?

If you read the headline: Where Dat Puppeh ATAT? and then looked at the image and found it amusing then you are probably a Star Wars nerd like me. If you just thought it was a dumb headline with a stupid toy and a cute puppy then breathe a sigh of relief…you’re normal…

Big Puppy Paws Equals Big Dog

It’s an exciting day…you’re bringing home that puppy for the first time…you introduce him to your friends and family and they all say: “He’s got big paws, he’s going to be a big dog!” That’s what happened with my last three puppies and I’m sure I’ll hear it again. In fact, my dogs did end up being on the large side, but it takes a little bit of time before they get those gigantic feet.

Case in point is this picture I recently came across. Take a look:

puppy feet! , originally uploaded by Derime

That’s a mommy and her puppy. I think you can tell that first, the puppy’s paws are small and second the puppy will eventually have large paws. Yikes! now that’s a big different in paw size. Can you guess what kind of dog this is? I’ll make it a little easier for you. take a look at this picture:

Do you know now? That’s mommy with her pups…they are Newfoundlands a wonderful breed that can grow in excess of 100 pounds. Now those are big paws and a big dog.

I came across the puppy paw photos and thought it was too adorable not to post. I hope you enjoy!

Online Profits Contest from Daily Blog Tips

Way back in November we were involved in a contest put together by Daniel Scocco of the Daily Blog Tips website. Unfortunately, we didn’t win, but we learned a lot, met some new friends, more than tripled the number of subscribers to this site, and finished in 13th out of more than 100 competitors.

Today, Daily Blog Tips is running a much simpler contest and that is to write a post about Daniel’s new training program Online Profits.

Online Profits

Here are the features of this new training program:

  • Learn all the facets of Internet marketing
  • Create your own online business
  • Take your existing projects and websites to the next level
  • Discover the tools and strategies that you need to succeed
  • Get access to a vibrant community of Internet marketers and entrepreneurs

I have not participated in this program however, based on the quality content I have read on Daniel’s Daily Blog Tips website and the list of great mentors and contributors on the Online Profits homepage I’m sure that this training program will be a success.

If you are interested in this joining Online Profits  then visit the  homepage to read more information and sign up.  By the way, you need to hurry because the price is 50% off and the doors will be closing today (1/16/2009).

Apologies to those who thought this was going to be a post about puppy dogs and ice cream, but I’m always looking for ways to increase the number of subscribers to this site, build a stronger community, and increase my traffic.

Japanese Guide Dogs

I was reading through my RSS feed today and came across this funny quote from Twitter about Japanese Guide Dogs.

Japanese guide dogs are taught commands in English. I guess “sit” is easier than “suwaranasai”. Especially if you’re a dog

It gave me a good chuckle and since I’m Japanese-American (unfortunately I know very little Japanese) I googled “suwaranasai” to see the Japanese translation.  The literal translation(as mentioned on about.com) for “suwaranasai” in Japanese is “sit down”.

I’ll have to agree with the tweet above…”suwaranasai” is much more difficult to say then “sit”.

Dog Adoption Labrador Retriever Pointer Mix

Here at Puppy In Training were back advocates of dog adoption.  It’s been a while since I talked about the Cuddly Canines Rescue and as many of you already know I used to volunteer as a foster parent for Cuddly Canines.  I’m sure I’ll volunteer again in the future when I have more free time in my schedule.  Anyhow, I went ahead and visited their site to take a look at the puppies and dogs they have for adoption.  It looks like their website is under maintenance, but they still have all their adoptable dogs posted at petfinder.com.

One litter of dogs caught my attention…the Labrador Retriever Pointer Mix.  It looks like they have four Lab Pointer mixes from the same litter.  The one that caught my attention was a little female puppy named Madison with a heart shaped marking on her left side.  Take a look at the picture:

Lab Pointer Mix

Lab Pointer Mix

See the nice heart shaped mark on her side.  It kind of reminds me of the story about the little puppy named Heart-kun.  Another heart shaped marked puppy.

If you’d like to see the other puppies in the Labrador Retriever Pointer mix litter than visit the Cuddly Canines website and check out their list of puppies.  If you’re interested in adoption then check out their Cuddly Application for dog adoptions.

Tired of Regular Dog Poop Bags? Try This Product

Dog Poop BagsIf you’re like me then you probably buy hundreds of dog poop bags every month to pick up after your doggys.  If you’re tired of those boring old regular dog poop bags and you’re looking for an alternative to scooping poop then look no further then this innovative new dog product (maybe not so new since this video’s been floating around for about two years).

The New Improved Dog Poop Bags

I’m not sure if you’ll consider this a great new innovative product or the world’s worst dog poop gadget ever as it’s mentioned on the Daily Dachshund Dog News website.  I’ll let you decide:

Whether you consider this innovative or horrible I’m sure you got a good laugh as I did.

Here are my thoughts or I guess laughs:

  • I started laughing when I saw the dog poop bag expand like an accordion
  • I started laughing some more when I realized the doggy backpack was for holding used dog poop bags.
  • I started laughing more when I saw him attach the unused dog poop bags to the dogs butt.
  • I felt bad for the Labrador Retriever, but she didn’t seem to mind and seemed quite happy with herself.

I hope you enjoyed this little video as much as I did.  I found this video in my feed reader from the Daily Dachshund website.  When you have a chance, check out their site for some great Doxie and dog articles.
