Do you have a dog that pulls when on leash?  Fear not!  I may have the solution for you and your four-legged friend!

Was that to much like your late night informercial?  Well, I am a product of late night television so it doesn’t surprise me if it is a bit salesy/adsy.

So, now you must ask: “What elixir are you selling my friend?”  Actually it’s a product I’ve been using with Stetson and Linus for a couple years now that helps with leash pulling.

I was a little skeptical when I first picked up PetSafe Easy Walk Dog Harness (affiliate link) from my local PetSmart, but it helped immensely when Linus and Stetson pull on leash.

Easy Walk Dog Harness

I haven’t tried every no-pull contraption in the book, but I have tried a few.

The Easy Walk Dog Harness is probably my favorite one.  So lets take a quick look at the description for the Easy Walk Harness:

These harnesses come in many different colors and sizes including Stetson’s Red/Black and Linus’ Blue/Black models.

And now what you’ve all been waiting for.  Linus, Stetson, and my thoughts on the Easy Walk Harness!

Eco Easy Walk Dog Harness

Lets start with my favorite parts:

The Pros

  • It helps deter leash pulling!  Yes, it works for my dogs, but this may not be true for all dogs.  I don’t have voracious pullers.  Linus and Stetson, in general are good about not pulling, but from time to time, when they see a squirrel…it’s on!  Off to the races!  The Easy Walk Dog Harness makes this pulling behavior much more manageable.  The leash attaches to the front of the harness and I’ve noticed that when my dogs do try to pull it puts pressure on their shoulder and the martingale on the chest kind of rotates their body.  This makes it more difficult for them to pull on leash with the full force of their body.
  • No more choking!  You know that nasty choking sound your dog makes when he pulls on leash?  That choking is caused by your dog’s collar pressing down on the trachea which is very bad for your dog.  The Easy Walk Dog Harness moves the pressure points to the shoulders instead of against the throat.  The result: no more choking and no more worries about your dog having a collapsed trachea.

And Now…

The Cons

  • Initial setup is not so simple.  My number 1 gripe is this thing was difficult to properly adjust and get fitted properly on my dogs.  Even after I got Stetson’s fitting perfectly it took quite some time to get Linus’ on properly.  The good news?  Once you get them properly adjusted like your dogs collar you don’t have to fiddle with it anymore.  Snap the buckles, attach the leash, and you’re ready to go!
  • Putting it on not simple at first.  Number 2 on the list is getting your dog dressed in the Easy Walk Harness is not the simplest of tasks.  Once again as you get used to taking this thing on and off it’s as easy as pie.  Comparing the Comfortflex Sport Harness to the Easy Walk Harness the former was much easier to put on and take off.  The reason for this: the Comfortflex Sport Harness has stiff, padded straps which make the positioning of buckles/straps simpler to identify.
  • Stetson flipped out, literally when wearing his easy walk harness.  What am I talking about?  Stetson went from a stand still to a full sprint to chase a squirrel and instead of getting my arm ripped out of the socket the harness literally made him trip over himself.  I’m not too sure how that happened, but I think he raised his center of gravity up above the front strap of the harness and he basically flipped his body over the harness.  It was a little bit scary as Stetson thudded against the ground, but he’s okay and it was only a one time occurrence.  The good news: Stetson wasn’t able to pull very hard even at full flight.  The bad news: He flipped out…literally.  I guess he’ll think twice before he chases another squirrel.
  • Rubs raw spots on my dog from straps.  While researching this product I did come across some reviews that mentioned that the straps were causing raw spots on their dogs.  I have not experienced this with Stetson and Linus and it may have something to do with having the straps adjusted to tight.  A second possibility is if you used the harness for a long periods of time.  I only use the Easy Walk when out on walks (about 1 hour a day)

Overall the good has far outweighed the bad.  Once you get used to the Easy Walk Harness it really is “Easy”.

What Is The Eco Easy Walk Dog Harness?

I saw on Amazon.com that there is an ECO Easy Walk Harness (affiliate link) and I was wondering how it was different from the regular Easy Walk Dog Harness.

Functionally Eco vs Regular there is no difference.  The main difference between the two products is in the strap material.

The Eco Easy Walk Harness is made of 100% recycled milk cartoons.  I went out and purchased the eco-version of the harness and I actually like this product a little better because the fabric is softer then the regular webbing used on the non-eco product.

The eco-friendly product also comes with a matching leash which I don’t really use since I have about 2 dozen leashes and I prefer leather leashes to most others.

That’s all folks!  If you have a dog that pulls on leash then the ECO Easy Walk Harness (affiliate link)  might be the product for you.

  1. Yeah, the choking/gagging can be tough on a dog’s trachea. I really like the Easy Walk Harness, but if you have a really strong puller then I’d probably also look into the Gentle Leaders.

  2. I like our Easy Walk Harness. I am small in stature (5’2″) and am not very strong…so when our 80lb dog decides to chase something I’m always afraid of getting pulled or falling. The Easy Walk Harness makes it easier for me to walk the dogs without stress (esp. when another dog or squirrel crosses our path). Plus I hate the choking/gagging noise the dogs make with the collars. It makes me feel like I’m hurting them.
