Correct use of the training leash is important, not only during training sessions, but at all times. Always having a loop over your thumb and your hand closed into a fist, prevents even the strongest dog from unexpectedly jerking the leash through your fingers and breaking free. Whether it's the hand-loop or a loop formed by marrying the leash over your thumb, the result is the same. Pulling on the leash merely causes your grip to tighten

@Joanna, thanks for the advice. Good luck to you and Camry, I hope she makes it as a breeder or a guide dog.

By the way, I was subscribed to your blog, but I think you set it to private. Is it possible for me to get access to your blog again? Thanks!

I am raising female yellow lab Camry. She is almost 14 months old. She is under breeder watch, which is exciting, but I think I'd prefer her to be a guide. :) And yep, you're right, the "no news is good news" policy works well!! As Stetson progresses further in training, you'll get postcards (which i'm sure you already know), and also, don't hesitate to ask Louise for an update. Many raisers do, although I don't understand why. When my pups are IFT, I usually email her once a month asking how the pup is doing, and she usually gives a vague "doing well, good focus" response, but that will make your day!!

@Joanna, I'm so glad that you are enjoying my blog. Who are you raising right now? I haven't heard anything about Stetson yet, but from what I understand that's a good thing.

I have an itch to raise another puppy and really enjoy the activities we do as a group. I'm going to try and wait until after Stetson graduates before I raise another one. I'm puppy sitting one of the younger puppies in our group for the next 10 days. His name is Ace and he's a 14 week old male yellow lab. That should give me my puppy fix for the time being.

I just want you to know, I enjoy your blogs very much!!! I am also a puppy raiser for GDA, raising my 6th puppy right now. I wish Stetson the best of luck while he's in for formal training!!! I know many dogs right now who are IFT, and I hope they're all doing well!!! I hope you decide to raise another puppy in the future. :)
