OC Pet Expo 2011

So you may have remembered a few weeks back we talked about the upcoming OC Pet Expo 2011 at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA.  Most of you probably know that I get really excited for the Pet Expo every year and for the past several years we’ve also volunteered working at the Guide Dogs of America (GDA) booth at the expo.

This year we (both Dublin and I) plan on working the GDA booth at the OC Pet Expo on Sunday, April 17th in the afternoon.  However, we also plan on visiting the Pet Expo Friday afternoon which will give us a chance to enjoy walking around the OC fairgrounds and visiting all the different exhibits, dog rescues, shows, pet products, and many other great demos and activities.

Just in case you don’t have the information handy on the Orange Count Pet Expo, here it is again:

Top 5 Favorite Things To Do At The OC Pet Expo

In case you can’t be at the Orange County Pet Expo all day like us:

  1. Splash Dogs – We’ve long wanted to enter one of our dogs into the Splash Dogs competition alas none of our dogs enjoys the water.
  2. Parade of Products – We’re always keeping our eye out for the next great puppy and dog products on the market.
  3. Dog Rescues – In the past we’ve volunteered with local dog rescues and we are always in favor of supporting dog adoption through rescues.  If you’re interested in adopting a new pet then the OC Pet Expo is definitely the place to go this weekend.
  4. Police and Search Dog Demonstrations – We’ve seen the K9 demos, but not the search dog demos.  We’d be interested to see how it compares to Stetson’s training as a Sniffer Dog.
  5. Guide Dogs of America Booth – Of Course I have to plug the booth we’re working.  Also make sure to visit the other service and guide dog booths at the show.

We can’t wait to see everyone this weekend at the Orange County Pet Expo!  As we mentioned earlier we’ll be working the Guide Dogs of America booth this Sunday afternoon so stop by and say hello if you have a moment.

Have you visited the OC Pet Expo or do you plan on going this year?  If so, let us know what you thought about this event in the comment section below.

Orange County Pet Expo 2011

The Orange County Pet Expo 2011 is one of my favorite events of the year and it’s right around the corner!  If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you may have caught some of my glowing reviews of the OC Pet Expo.  This event is held every year in the middle of April at the Orange County Fair Grounds in Costa Mesa, CA.

We don’t have all the details yet, but two of our favorite organizations are usually at the Pet Expo in Orange County.  Guide Dogs of America usually have a booth and in our 2010 OC Pet Expo blog post we had a map of the exact location.  However, I’m not yet sure where the GDA booth will be this year.  I’ll try to get a another post up on the blog when I have that information.  Dublin and I will most likely volunteer to man the booth for at least a few hours on either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.  We’ll keep you informed on that as well.

Our other favorite non-profit organization is Cuddly Canines.  We volunteered as foster parents several years ago and still keep them close to our heart.  Hopefully some day in the future we can help them again.  They usually has a booth at the Pet Expo and I’d expect to see them again this year.  They rescue puppies and their mothers mostly from the Riverside Animal Shelter

Tons of cool stuff happens at the OC Pet Expo including Splash Dogs, K9 Demo, Dog Rescues and Adoptions, Pet Products, Dog Breeds, Therapy Dogs, Assistance Dogs, Guide Dogs, Service Dogs and those are just a few things I can remember off the top of my head.

We love the Orange County Pet Expo and highly recommend you attend if you live in the Southern California area.  Some of our favorite Dog Products have come from past Pet Expos including several of our travel dog bowls, dog toys, dog collars, and many other great pet products.  Don’t just trust us go see the Pet Expo in Orange County for yourself.

Hopefully we’ll see you there and remember Dublin and I plan on working the Guide Dogs of America booth so pay us a visit if you decide to make the trip to this years Orange County Pet Expo.

Orange County Pet Expo Recap

It was a great and busy weekend for me starting on Friday with the Orange County Pet Expo.  The Pet Expo actually wasn’t the only event I had scheduled this weekend after volunteering for Guide Dogs of America all day Friday I hopped on a plane to Las Vegas for a friends bachelor party.  I scheduled an early Sunday morning flight back to Orange County in attempt to make our guide dog puppy training train trip to Universal City.  Unfortunately, I was too tired to make the final leg (train trip with Guide dogs) of my weekend.

Anyhow I wanted to give you guys a short recap of my experience at this years OC Pet Expo.

Orange County Pet Expo Recap

Did anyone get a chance to stop by the GDA booth over the weekend.  I was there from 10am to 2pm on Friday. Some of our other friends manned the booth the rest of the afternoon while I grabbed lunch and walked around the pet expo.

I was a little too tired this year to hang around for the demonstrations.  I did catch a few of the splash dog contestants jumping into the pool.  I caught a glimpse of the K9 demonstration, but overall I just checked out the latest pet products,  the different dog breeds, some of the other service dog organizations, and the cat and dog rescues.  We even saw one of the therapy dog groups we hope to one day join.

Overall it was a great experience my feet were barking by 4:30pm so at that time we headed home.

Interesting Dog Training Opportunities

While we were working the Guide Dogs of America booth we were visited by two of the other exhibitors at the Pet Expo that really caught my attention.  The first was Beach Animals Reading with Kids also known as BARK.  We visited an attended a BARK group meeting a few months ago. BARK is a volunteer program that encourages children to increase their reading skills by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs.  I’ve been procrastinating with Stetson, but I really want to get involved in a Therapy Dog program like BARK.

Next, a couple of young ladies stopped by to say hello and also introduced us to K9 Nose Work. From their website:

“Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt. The sport of K9 Nose Work is designed to develop your dog’s natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise.”

COOL!  Stetson loves to sniff!  This would be an excellent sport for him to take up.  We’ll be investigating this in the near future.

Any New Pet Products At The Pet Expo?

So now I guess you’re wondering what about the latest and greatest pet products.  Well we did walk away with a few purchases that we plan to review in the coming weeks.  The pet-friendly Honda Element made it’s debut at this years OC Pet Expo.  Unfortunately, I did not come home with a new dog car.

However, I did find a new dog bowl for Stetson.  Well, it’s not exactly a dog bowl, but it’s the latest in a long line of dog bowls/products I found to help slow down Stetson’s fast eating.  It’s called the Amazing Treat Machine and I plan on getting a review on the site as soon as possible.  Also, I want to see if it’s viable solution as Stetson’s new dog bowl.

One pet product I did not buy was a new bed made out of PVC piping.  It was a little pricey at $70 and I’m going to see if it’s something my dad can custom make for Stetson and Linus.  Here’s a photo:

If you’re wondering who our dog bed model is that’s GDA Puppy In Training Winter.  We hung out most of the day greeting people at the GDA booth.

In the past I’ve also talked about Stetson and his dog skin allergies.  Well, we found something to kill the bacteria on Stetson’s skin and hopefully relieve him of his itching.  The product was recommended to us by good friends from Sudsy Dog Wash.  The stuff is called Vetericyn and is said to kill 99.999% of bacteria, single-cell organisms and fungi.  YAY!  hopefully no more dog skin allergies or itching for Stetson.

That’s about it for the 2010 Orange County Pet Expo.  Hopefully you had the chance to visit.  If not, there’s always next year.

Tell us about your experiences at the 2010 OC Pet Expo.

OC Pet Expo 2010

Tomorrow is the start of the the OC Pet Expo 2010 at the fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA.  As usual Guide Dogs of America will have a booth.  We were all set to volunteer on the first day of the Pet Expo, but we haven’t heard back on what time.  So for those of you keeping track we will most likely be a the GDA booth from either 10am-2pm or 2pm-6pm on Friday.  Here’s a map of the fairgrounds and the location of the GDA booth:

I believe that’s the same place it’s been for the past few years.  If you have a pet or hope to someday have pets I highly recommend visiting the Orange County Pet Expo.  If you are at the Pet Expo this Friday then please stop by the Guide Dogs of America booth and say hello.

Orange County Pet Expo 2010

Every year I get excited when I think about the Orange County Pet Expo.  The OC Pet Expo is usually scheduled from Friday to Sunday in the middle of April and this year is no different.  In 2010 the Pet Expo in Orange County is going to be held from April 16th to April 18th.  Right now it’s only January and I’m already getting excited.

Here’s a look back at some of the articles I wrote on the Orange County Pet Expo over the past few years:

Orange County Pet Expo 2008

Orange County Pet Expo 2009

The OC Pet Expo is one of our favorite events and way back in 2006 it was the trigger that got me started on guide dog puppy raising and rescue dog fostering.

We’ve had a ton of fun the past few years at the OC Pet Expo.  Back in 2008 Stetson was still a Guide Dog Puppy In Training and was allowed to accompany me into the Pet Expo.  I decided last year Derby was a little too young and inexperienced to attend the event.

The exhibitions at the OC Pet Expo are great for the entire family.  Last year we watched the Police Dog demonstration, the dog agility relays, Splash Dogs, visited the GDA booth, and the many dogs and dog rescues.

If you’re looking for some of the latest and greatest dog products then look no further than the Orange County Pet Expo.  Last year we picked up the Water Rover – Portable Dog Bowl.  If you’re looking for a great water bottle slash dog water bowl then check out the Water Rover.  We love using it on all of our outings especially on hikes or on our Guide Dog field trips.

Of course, dogs aren’t the only attraction at the OC Pet Expo.  There are also cats, birds, fish, snakes, lizards, llamas, ponies, rabbits, and many more.

So, if you’re a pet lover like me than visit the Orange County Pet Expo 2010 this year…you won’t regret that you did!
