Little Pink Pup

I recently received an email from Johanna Kerby the author of The Pink Puppy and owner of Pink the Pig and Tink the Dachshund mom.  Johanna has recently put together her own website with all the latest updates about herself, her family, Tink, Pink, and all the other animals on her farm.  Check out her new website at http://www.johannakerby.com.

Little Pink Pup

I also noticed on Johanna’s website that she has a new book coming out called Little Pink Pup.  The book is due to come out until June 10, 2010.

Here are a few excerpts I found about the upcoming book:

From Johanna’s website:

Little Pink Pup is a wonderful picture book for children. It is about our miniature dachshund, Tink, who raises a premature baby pig born on our farm. The pig was named Pink for his bubblegum pink skin. The book tells their unique story of love and acceptance. The message of being accepted for who you are is the main theme of the story. The love that Tink gave Pink was very heartwarming. Pink is now part of our family and has a happy forever home with us.The book will be available in June 2010 and is published by Penguin Group, G.P. Putnam’s Sons in NY, NY. I took all the photographs in the book.

From Amazon.com:

Pink was the runt of the pig litter. He was so small that the Kerby family didn’t think he would survive– so they brought him into the house where he met Tink, a new dachshund mom. When Tink saw Pink, she immediately adopted him into her family, and helped nurse him back to health. Pink thrived in his new family: the puppies didn’t mind that Pink looked nothing like them—he was just their size.

This remarkable story has already garnered a great deal of media attention: the irresistible photographs documenting Pink and Tink’s relationship have appeared on Good Morning America and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Readers of all ages will be captivated by these adorable animals and the amazing bond that they share.

I’m hoping we might get to see some new pictures of Pink and his Dachshund litter mates Johanna’s upcoming book: Little Pink Pup.  By the way if you haven’t already visited Johanna’s website I suggest you take a look at the more recent pictures of Pink.  Here’s a link to Pink’s page: Pink and Tink. Pink sure his grown. He dwarfs little Tink in the picture on the bottom of the page.

That’s the latest update on a story we started covering two years ago about a little piglet named Pink and has Dachshund mom, Tink.

Do you remember last years story about the Dachshund Acts As Mom To Baby Piglet? We ran that article almost this same time last year. If you’ve been following along then you know that Tink the Dachshund mom was not feeling to well last time we spoke to Momma Johanna. Here’s the last update we had on Tink and Pink:

The Latest News On “The Pink Puppy”

Pink was doing well, but Tink was having a little bit of a medical problem. We went ahead and contacted Johanna to see if we could get an update on Tink and Pink and we were happy to hear that she’s doing much better and there was a little surprise to go with it.

I’ll go ahead and let the pictures do the talking and add Momma Johanna’s email update at the end:

Colby,

I actually do have an update. Tink is doing great..so far no more tumors! She seems very healthy, so keep your fingers crossed. Pink is going to turn one year old next week. We are going to have a little birthday party for him and Tink and I’ll try to get you some photos of that. I’m going to make him a marshmallow cake! He will love it.

Tink had another wonderful experience last weekend with a baby pygmy goat born on our farm. The mother had triplets and one of the babies was stillborn, one healthy and one was nearly frozen. My husband brought the little guy to the house and we worked on getting him warmed up and to get some milk in him to see if we could take him back to his mommy. Tink was excited and thought she had another new baby. If Tink had milk, she would have tried to nurse him. She laid with him while we were warming him up and licked him all over. Later that day he could walk and she followed him everywhere he went and mothered him. Unfortunately, the mommy goat died and the little billy goat and his sister were given to a family that had a few other bottle fed babies. So for those two days, she got to be a mommy again. Here is a few pictures of her with “Spencer”, the baby billy goat. There is always something going on our little farm..never a dull moment!

Be looking for another book in the near future from a major publishing company. I will let you know more about it when I can.

Take care,

Johanna

Lots of exciting news! We’ll be sure to keep everyone posted on Tink, Pink, Spencer, and Johanna’s new book. Thanks Johanna for the update!

The Latest News On “The Pink Puppy”

Does everyone remember Pink the piglet and his dachshund mother Tink? If you haven’t heard it’s the true story of a little piglet named Pink who is adopted by Tink and her litter of Dachshund puppies. You can find all the details about this amazing true story in Johanna Kerby’s book, The Pink Puppy.

We also documented much of the story right here on the Puppy In Training website including many great pictures of Pink the piglet, Tink the mother Dachshund, and all of Tink’s little Dachshund babies. Here’s a link to all of those stories: Pink And Tink

The Latest News On Pink And Tink

A few people have asked me how Pink and Tink are doing so I went ahead and contacted Johanna to see how the two were doing. She sent me a few pictures and gave me the update on Pink and Tink. Here’s what she had to say:

We are all doing well. The book is selling really well and I have been invited to some schools for author visits and I have had a few book signings, one at our local Borders Store. It has been a lot of fun.

Tink is having a little bit of a medical problem. She has to have a mammary tumor removed and her teeth worked on at the end of this month. I hope the tumor isn’t cancerous. The vet said it was a 50/50 chance. The tumor is very tiny but hard as a rock. She also has to have a hernia repair and get spayed after the first of the year. She is just as sweet as can be and is always happy!

Pink is doing great. We moved him last week to a smaller barn where he can go inside or outside. It was the first time he had ever been allowed to really be a pig. He loved the mud!!! He is usually a very clean guy, but he was covered from head to toe by the end of the day. I loved watching him experience it. He ran and ran. He needs the exercise!!! He is getting very chubby. He is short and wide…about 150lbs now. He should be well over 300lbs and a lot taller. He is very sweet and loves to eat marshmallows. We have trained him to “sit” like a dog for a marshmallow treat. We can get him to do it about half the time.

When we put him outside, we put a litter of piglets in there with him for company. He had never been with another pig before and it was also interesting to watch him interact with them. They are about 75lbs at 2.5 months old. He chased them around and by the end of the day he was like a mother hen with chicks following him around. He is the boss of the pen! They won’t be there for long, but I thought it would be a good experience for him.

I am sending you a few pictures of them and I will get you some more later. Tell your readers thanks for the inquiries and they can email me anytime at tinkandpink [at] msn [dot] com

Children’s Book About Piglet With Dachshund Mother

It’s been a few months since the story broke about Pink the Piglet and Tink his Dachshund mother. Earlier today we heard from Pink and Tink’s caretaker and that she has written a children’s book called The Pink Puppy. The book chronicles the true story about a miniature dachshund fostering a little piglet.

Here’s the information I received earlier today.

I just wanted to let you know that I have written a children’s book about Pink and Tink. The name of the book is called The Pink Puppy. It is the true story about how our Miniature Dachshund, Tink, fostered our little piglet, Pink. I hope your readers will enjoy the book. The book can be purchased by going to www.wastelandpress.net, or by emailing me at tinkandpink [at] msn [dot] com. It will also be available in a few weeks on all of the major book distributors.

Wow! Looks Like Pink The Piglet Will Stay With Dachshund Family

I just got word from our friends at the Daily Doxie that KHTV in Little Rock has posted some new information on Pink the piglet and Tink the Dachshund Mom.

Here’s the latest information:

Pink With His Dachshund Sibling

Pink and Puppy

KHTV in Little Rock, Arkansas has two new pictures of and an update on Pink, the piglet who was fostered and nursed by Tink the Dachshund Mom and raised with her puppies:

We emailed Pink’s owner who lives in West Virginia and she emailed us this update:
“Pink is doing great and we had many adoption offers, but none just right for him. I think we are going to keep the little guy. He weighs about 6 or 7 lbs now and his siblings are 50+. My husband built him a stall in our new barn and he is really enjoying being there. He likes rooting around in the wood shavings. He still gets to play with his puppy sister everyday. We kept one of the puppies out of the litter. He is a sweet little pig.”

Gosh that’s amazing that Pink is only 7 pounds while his siblings are already over 50 pounds! I’d be interested to see a picture of Pink next to his piglet siblings. I’m glad to see everything looks well for Pink, TInk, and the rest of the family. For more information on Pink and Tink take a look at some of our past stories:

Pink Scratching Crate

Here’s the latest news straight from their caretaker Mommaj:

I just wanted to give you an update on Tink and Pink. Tink weaned Pink from her last week along with the puppies. Pink had a really hard time with it, but the puppies did great. For a few days he was really upset and I couldn’t get him to hardly eat. Then he started eating his formula really well. He also is eating the puppy food, but not very much pig food. He started nibbling on the puppy food a few weeks ago when the puppies started.

I separated the puppies into one crate and him in the other because he kept trying to nurse from the puppies. He is now doing really well and seems to be used to the daily routine. He sleeps good all night in his little doggy bed and as soon as someone gets up in the morning, he lets us know he is up too! I took him and the puppies to the vet for their 6 wk checkup and they are all doing great. They weigh between 2 and 3lbs. Pink weighed in at 2 1/2 lbs. His pig siblings now weigh about 20 to 30+lbs and are weaned from their mommy too.

Pink loves to roam around the house and explore every nook and cranny. He is very neat and only goes potty in his crate. He gets to play with the puppies every day and it is funny to see. They chase him and gang up on him. He loves it as much as they do! He does not like to be held or cuddled , but he is very sweet and smart. I am sending some cute pictures of him to show everyone. I know several people wanted to be updated on his progress.

We have made a hard decision as far as his future We are going to try to find him a great home with someone who has the time to work with him and train him. I placed an ad on usfreeads.com. The number of the ad is 1148556. Or if they want, they can email me at tinkandpink@msn.com. It makes me really sad to do so because we love him, but I think it is best for Pink. Everyone wants to know how big he will get. I really don’t know and the vet didn’t have any idea either.
