Does Your Mom Receive Mother’s Day Cards From The Dog?

Happy Mother’s Day Mom!!!

It’s been over 7 years since I picked up Linus from the Carson Animal Shelter and seven years ago today was the first year my mom started receiving mother’s day cards from the dog!

Over those past 7 years I’ve raised and fostered many different dog breeds starting with Linus my Australian Shepherd mix (although he looks a lot like a black Labrador Retriever).  The 3 dogs I currently have at home are Linus (Aussie mix), Stetson (black Labrador Retriever), and Apache (Golden Retriever).

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but the selection of Mother’s Day cards from dogs is very slim.  In fact, usually only the most common dog breeds and the cutest of puppies show up on most holiday cards.  Lucky for me Labs and Goldens are 2 of the most common dogs and often show up on most cards from Mother’s Day to Birthdays to Christmas.  If you own a dog on the top 10 AKC list then you’ll have a good chance of finding a card for your selected holiday.  Here’s a look at the top 10 dog breeds from 2011 (AKC stats):

1. Labrador Retrievers
2. German Shepherd Dogs
3. Beagles
4. Golden Retrievers
5. Yorkshire Terriers
6. Bulldogs
7. Boxers
8. Poodles
9. Dachshunds
10. Rottweilers

So what if you’re pup is so special that you cannot find an appropriate mother’s day card…that is one with a picture that looks like your dog.  Here are a few suggestions:

Here are a few alternate ideas if you cannot find the right store bought mother’s day card from your dog:

1. Create a custom card using your computer and word processor including your own dog pics.
2. Use an online service like Shutterfly to create your own special Mother’s Day card from your dog.
3. Create an image using your favorite video editor like Photoshop add text to the image wishing a happy mother’s day.
4. Write a blog post as your custom Mother’s Day card.

Those just a few ideas off the top of my head.  I’m not all that creative and I’m sure you could think of a few better ideas.  One of the great places to look for cool and crafty ideas is Pinterest.
