Osmosis noun
- Physical Chemistry, Cell Biology. the tendency of a fluid, usually water, to pass through a semipermeable membrane into a solution where the solvent concentration is higher, thus equalizing the concentrations of materials on either side of the membrane.
the diffusion of fluids through membranes or porous partitions.
Compare endosmosis, exosmosis. - a subtle or gradual absorption or mingling: He never studies but seems to learn by osmosis.
As a student in high school and college I tried my best to learn by osmosis. After reading countless text books which were not the most riveting pieces of literature I always succumbed to resting my head on the large tomes in attempt to learn by osmosis. I found this wasn’t the most effective way of learning.
“What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.” I guess I’m really looking for the opposite of this quote…if learning by osmosis doesn’t work for humans then I’m guessing it doesn’t work for puppies either. However, this pup thinks puppy training by osmosis is the way to go. I’m sure many a student before and after will try this method of training/learning.
How about you guys? What method do you use to train your puppies? Is learning by osmosis one of your go-to training techniques? Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.

We used to tell our students in the library that they were not able to learn by osmosis! Thanks for the laugh. ☺
Awww…my preferred method of studying during high school…
Wish I knew about that technique when I was in school LOL
The results aren’t great…
Hahaha…if only it were that easy.
Maybe you should have some of your Math students try this method of learning 🙂
Oh if only it worked that way!
They don’t even make good pillows…
Haha! I sure wish it worked that way. Considering how many books I’ve read about dogs and dog training, Haley could have saved me a lot of time, lol.
I tried it when I was in high school, but none of those words seeped from the pages to my brain 🙁
Makes me think of the phrase “hit the books”, but you hit so hard you are knocked out!
When I was in college I literally “hit the books” in frustration 🙂
